Which is a better way to prepare for IAS exam?

I'm confused between the two options available ; self-study and professional coaching. I've tried my hand at coaching centres before during school time, but it was never of much help. Now, that I want to work towards IAS, I'm not sure if self-study is at par with the coaching.
