How would a structural functionalist view the drug cartel wars in mexico?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "Structural Functionalist" but my personal opinion about the Mexican drug cartels is that they are just another tool in the grand scheme to destroy American and it's sovereignty as a nation. Legalize Marijuana alone and this would all end overnight. I live 3 hrs north of the Mexican border and I can tell you it's a ****** war zone.
